O God, who wills not the death of a sinner, but rather that he be converted and live, Grant, we beseech You, through the intercession of the Blessed Mary, ever Virgin, and all the Saints, an increase of laborers for Your Church, fellow laborers with Christ, to spend and consume themselves for souls, through that Jesus Christ Your Son, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, world without end. Amen.

Magnificat

Prayed in union with the Heart of Mary to repair for ingratitude of men

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.

From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.

He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.

He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.

Apostle's Creed

Prayed to bring about a harvest of faith

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting.
Amen.

DAY: ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT NINE
First Day

Seeking the intercession of the highly favored and powerful Saint Joseph

O highly favored and powerful Saint Joseph, chosen to be the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster father of Christ the Lord, you received many other special favors during your life on this earth, but the greatest of them all was your having lived in the company of Jesus and Mary for so many years and having known the mysteries of the relationship between them. We praise you for this greatest of favors which you received. We praise you also for all the other favors and privileges which you received from the Most Holy Trinity. We praise you, especially, for the seven great privileges granted to you on our behalf.

O highly favored and powerful Saint Joseph, firmly believing that what you ask of the Lord in heaven is granted upon earth, we humbly seek your powerful intercession as we make our petitions to you in this novena in honor of your seven great privileges.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Second Day

Petition for attaining the virtue of purity and overcoming the sensual inclinations of the flesh

O virtuous Joseph, before your marriage to the Immaculate Virgin Mary, the Holy Spirit infused in you perfect habits of all the virtues and gifts, balancing anew all your faculties and filling you with grace. He sanctified and inspired you with most chaste thoughts and desires in conformity with the mind and spirit of the Immaculate Virgin. In this perfection of chastity, never did an image of the impurities of our sensible nature engage any of your faculties, thus fitting you for the companionship and presence of the most Pure among all creatures. Without this excellence of virtues and gift of purity you would not have been worthy of so great a destiny and rare excellence of becoming the spouse of the Immaculate Virgin Mary. O virtuous Joseph, spouse of the Immaculate Virgin Mary, grant us your powerful intercession to attain the virtue of purity and to overcome all our sensual inclinations.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Third Day

Petition for procuring powerful help to escape sin and return to the friendship of God

O powerful Saint Joseph, you are highly favored for all eternity in God's presence. You have immense power to stay the arms of divine vengeance against sinners and to help men escape their sin and return to the friendship of God. On the last day, when all men shall be judged, do not let us be among the damned who will bewail their sins which prevented them from appreciating this powerful means of their salvation and of availing themselves of your intercession to gain the friendship of the just Judge. O powerful Saint Joseph, through your intercession help those who need to escape sin and to return to God's friendship, and help all of us to be saved and come to enjoy the eternal friendship of the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Fourth Day

Petition for increasing our love and devotion to Mary

Saint Joseph, most blessed of men! You were the one chosen by God to be espoused to Mary, Mother of God, and to live with her as her husband for many years. Great was Mary's love for you while you were on earth, for she loved you as her holy spouse.

And you, Saint Joseph, for your part, loved Mary, your spouse, with reverence and veneration as the one full of light and grace, bearing within herself the Author of light in the great mystery of the Incarnation; as the one whom God looked upon and chose for his dwelling place; as the one in whom alone He fulfilled the ancient promises made to the Patriarchs and Prophets, and as the one who is Queen of heaven and earth.

Blessed Saint Joseph, chosen by God to be spouse of Mary, the Mother of God and Queen of heaven and earth, grant us your intercession to increase our own reverence, love, and devotion to her, in imitation of you.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Fifth Day

Petition for securing the grace of a happy death and protection against the demons in that hour

O most fortunate Saint Joseph, the objects of your love, Jesus and Mary, were always lovingly present with you during your life on earth, more closely bound to you than to any other human. Blessed be God, the Author of such a great wonder! And blessed be you, Saint Joseph, most fortunate of men who so worthily corresponded to their love.

Jesus and Mary were also present during your last illness, O most fortunate Saint Joseph, caring for you as they prepared you to return to your heavenly Father. They were also present at the hour of your death, protecting you against the demons and assisting you in your happy death.

Grant us, most fortunate Saint Joseph, through your powerful intercession, the presence of Jesus and Mary at our death, and secure for us the grace of a happy death and protection against the demons in that hour.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Sixth Day

Petition for inspiring the demons with terror at the mention of the name of Joseph by his clients

Noble Saint Joseph, spouse of Mary, Mother of God and Queen of heaven and earth, you are the most noble among all the princes and saints of the heavenly Jerusalem. For your holiness on earth exceeded that of all other men, filling the demons with terror.

While we are wayfarers on this earth we can not properly manifest your eminent sanctity, Saint Joseph, nor can we know it fully before we arrive at the vision of the Divinity. Then we will be filled with wonder and praise when the Most Holy Trinity makes us capable of understanding it.

Noble Saint Joseph, grant us your powerful intercession, flowing from the holiness of your earthly life, in all our temptations to fill the demons with terror as we call on your holy name.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

Seventh Day

Petition for gaining health of body and assistance in all kinds of difficulties

Holy Joseph, you were divinely blessed by an even-tempered disposition which made your body a blessed earth fit for the abode of your exquisite soul and well-balanced mind (Wis 8: 19).

During your life on earth, Holy Joseph, you also manifested dove-like patience and meekness in your illnesses and sufferings, never complaining of these sufferings nor of any of your other trials. Nor did you ever ask for relief in your needs and necessities, but bore all with equanimity and greatness of soul.

By your powerful intercession, help us, Saint Joseph, to strive for balance in our own dispositions so that our bodies will become fit abodes for well-balanced minds and holy souls. We ask you, then, to help us gain health of body and assist us in our life's difficulties.

Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be...      Top of Page

You are the most fortunate of men, Saint Joseph, because you were the foster father and intimate friend of Him who is the Son of God and the Son of Mary, Christ our Redeemer. You are worthy of our highest veneration and confidence.

We thank you for this favor and for all the favors You bestowed on Saint Joseph, and we thank You for giving us light and knowledge of these divine mysteries. Merciful Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we humbly ask you to bestow grace upon all who, with sincerity and love, seek the powerful intercession of Saint Joseph. We also humbly ask the spouse of Saint Joseph, the most holy Virgin Mary, Mother of God, Queen of heaven and earth, to help us to distinguish ourselves from this day forward in our devotion to Saint Joseph and to spread this devotion to others.

Anunciation Novena to The Incarnate Word

This novena is done each year before the Solemnity of the Anunciation, in which we celebrate the Incarnation of the Eternal Word of the Father. It usually begins on March 16 and ends on March 24. It brings to mind the connection between the days of creation in the Book of Genesis and attempts to reveal the days before the event of the Incarnation as days preceding the new creation.

DAY: ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT NINE
First Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the first day of Creation.

"In the beginning, when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless wasteland, and darkness covered the abyss, while a mighty wind swept over the waters."

"Then God said, 'Let there be light,' and there was light. God saw how good the light was. God then separated the light from the darkness. God called the light 'day,' and the darkness he called 'night.' Thus evening came, and morning followed-the first day" (Genesis 1: 1-5).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the divine blessings of the first day of Creation.

Second Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the second day of Creation.

"Then God said, 'Let there be a dome in the middle of the waters, to separate one body of water from the other.' And so it happened: God made the dome, and it separated the water above the dome from the water below it. God called the dome 'the sky.' Evening came, and morning followed-the second day" (Genesis 1: 6-8).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the divine blessings of the second day of Creation.

Third Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the third day of Creation.

"Then God said, 'Let the water under the sky be gathered into a single basin, so that the dry land may appear.' And so it happened: the water under the sky was gathered into its basin, and the dry land appeared. God called the dry land 'the earth,' and the basin of the water he called 'the sea.' God saw how good it was.

"Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth vegetation: every kind of plant that bears seed and every kind of fruit tree on earth that bears fruit with its seed in it.' And so it happened .... God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed-the third day" (Genesis 1: 9-13).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the divine blessings of the third day of Creation.

Fourth Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the fourth day of Creation.

"Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the dome of the sky, to separate day from night. Let them mark the fixed times, the days and the years, and serve as luminaries in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth.' And so it happened. God made the two great lights, the greater one to govern the day, and the lesser one to govern the night; and he made the stars. God set them in the dome of the sky, to shed light upon the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. God saw how good it was. Evening came, and morning followed-the fourth day" (Genesis 1: 14-19).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the divine blessings of the fourth day of Creation.

Fifth Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the fifth day of Creation.

"Then God said, 'Let the water teem with an abundance of living creatures, and on the earth let birds fly beneath the dome of the sky.' And so it happened: God created the great sea monsters and all kinds of swimming creatures with which the water teems, and all kinds of winged birds. God saw how good it was, and God blessed them, saying, 'Be fertile, multiply, and fill the water of the seas; and let the birds multiply on the earth.' Evening came, and morning followed-the fifth day" (Genesis 1: 20-23).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the divine blessings of the fifth day of Creation.

Sixth Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's works on the sixth day of Creation.

"Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures: cattle, creeping things, and wild animals of all kinds.' And so it happened....God saw how good it was. Then God said, 'Let us make men in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all the creatures that crawl on the ground.'"

"God created man in his image; in the divine image he created him; male and female he created them."

"God blessed them, saying: 'Be fertile, and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it. Have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and all the living things that move on the earth.' God also said, 'See, I give you every seed-bearing plant, and every tree that has seed-bearing fruit on it to be your food.' And so it happened. God looked on everything he had made, and he found it very good. Evening came, and morning followed-the sixth day" (Genesis 1: 24-31).

Seventh Day

Meditation

Ponder the Word of God speaking to us of God's rest on the seventh day of Creation.

"Thus the heavens and the earth and all their array were completed. Since on the seventh day God was finished with the work he had been doing, he rested on the seventh day from all the work he had undertaken. So God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work he had done in creation."

"Such is the story of the heavens and the earth at their creation" (Genesis 2: 1- 4).

Prayer

Offer thanks and praise to the Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, for all the blessings of the seventh day of Creation when God rested from all the work He had done.
